Revolt of 1857

The most important historical fact about the 10th of May is related to the conflict between Indians and the British Empire. This uprising is called THE REVOLT OF 1857 or the PRATHAM SWATANTRATA SANGRAM.

In 1857, an all-India rebellion was planned by many revolutionaries, Rajas, heads of the princely states, political leaders, social reformers and many militant groups.

This uprising was planned to be executed on the Sunday, 30th of May 1857. Due to an exceptional event occurring in Barrackpore Cantonment, an Overall mutiny In India broke out. The very well-known, Mangal Pandey fired the explosive stored in the hearts of Indian peoples for many years.

The fire from Barrackpore reached to the city of Meerut, where all of the Indian soldiers working in the British army, called a mutiny. Despite not happening on the planned date, the fire spread across India.

This mutiny was suppressed by the British East India Company and many of the great leaders of the movement were killed, like Laxmi Bai, Jhalkari Bai, Tatia Tope, Kunwar Khan and many more. But still, that rigorous clash between Indians and the British left a deep impact.

This event was recorded in the great Indian history and brought the attention of the world to the situation of India at that time. Finally, the British Parliament had to dismiss the company rule in the Indian subcontinent and impose the Crown Rule in India.

After that date, the representative of the British Parliament (viceroy) started to rule India, as per the directions of the British Parliament.
