This is not done by direct voting. In this process, the citizens of the country do not vote directly but our elected representatives vote for the candidates of presidential elections. That means simply we vote for some people, then they (got elected by our votes) vote for the president.

- Nominated members of the Rajya Sabha and Legislative Councils of states are not eligible for this.
- The voters MPs and MLAs combinedly are called the Electoral College.
- In this electoral college, each vote does not have its value/credit as 1 vote, even each vote does not have the same value as well.
- The value of a vote depends upon, how much the people are represented by the the MLA who is voting. For this calculation, there is a formula provided, as follows;

- In Presidential elections, voting is done on Ballot Paper instead of EVM.
- In this Ballot Paper, the voters are asked to make their preference and have to give the candidates ranking (like 1st, 2nd etc.) of their choice.
- Whoever collects the maximum number of vote values of rank 1 will be declared the winner.
